LAUGH OUT LOUD

Dear Reader,

So I was in a local book store looking for a writing exercise book that provided me with props to get me started on writing with new, strange, and fun ideas. Then the shopsy handed me this book, it's called, THIS DIARY WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE 2009. There are little captions and sayings randomly blasted around the front and back cover and I thought this would be a great book to use for my blog. I don't plan to do the weekly exercises or anything but I do plan to use this book to entertain, enthral, and educate you! Upon opening this book the first page is red and has the following quote in the middle of it:

“To be completely free, one must become a slave to a set of laws” - Cicero

As thought provoking and discussion instigating that sentence is, in some forms, be it rare or common it rings true. After reading that a few times it just makes me want to use this book even more to highlight my blog and my adventures. Everyone needs some comedic relief in their life!
The first task is MAKE A NEW YEARS RESOLUTION THAT NO ONE IN HISTORY HAS EVER MADE BEFORE. This is interesting because they supply you with some suggestions:

-Bring a bonafide Nazi to justice
-Find the Grail but keep quiet about it
-Teach the world to sing
-Memorize Pi backwards
-Gain weight
-Find the lost city of Atlantis
-Learn to horsewhisper
-Defeat evil wherever it may surface
-Make 1, 879, 422 pounds, (british currency) exactly and no more
-Find a cure for vertigo
-Waste fewer words
-Get a job in drug dealing
-Discover a new black hole with the naked eye
-Watch less bad news on tv
-Train my pet to meditate with me
-Eat asparagus every day
-Resolve the Middle East Crisis on a postcard
-Remember more of my dreams
-Recycle other people's rubbish
-Master the AK-47
-Stop passive smoking

As I was typing that list down I came up with a response for each and every one of those suggestions. If it's humour you are looking for today you will get it. Enjoy. (These are in the same order as stated above but it's my version!)

-If you are going to bring a Nazi to justice, make it worth your while. Go for a few or some one big like Ernest Zundel
-Don't bother finding the Grail, no one wants to read something as old and dusty as that. Pick a new age interesting book.....how about the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer, there's hunky guys to talk about and hot girls for the guys!
-Teach the world NOT to sing, avoid any ear piercing harmonies
-Anything with math, forget, except your count downs for birthdays, holidays, etc.
-Gain weight is an interesting one because at some point in the year everyone achieves this one!
-There's the hotel in the south that's called Atlantis and it practically is a city, well no, but has a lot of cool things that most regular cities don't have....the slide that is underwater, the biggest indoor fountain and a rockin' dance floor!
-I'm great at HorseYelling so I don't need to horsewhisper, my message is heard loud and clear!
-Defeating is fun when you are a super hero but you need to have the right spandex costume, liatards and gadgets first, once you invest in those then the crusade can begin
-I think that you should try to successfully make $1 for charity everyday, a good deed a day keeps the evil away! And..... it makes you feel good.
-Forget vertigo, find a cure for something common like IBS, yep that's right Irritable Bowel Syndrome
-Speak/Write fluently (Tough one for word Hogs!)
-A job in drug dealing does sound very appealing, but I don't think there are any tax breaks and legalization is a toughy
-The other day I did discover a new black hole with my naked eye, it was my dirty oven, Job=Clean dirty hole and make it pristine so that it hurts naked eye to look at. (Special tip, look around there's an asshole somewhere all the time)
-Allow only reality tv drama in your life, my personal fav....The Hills
-Forget training pets to meditate, if you can teach them to nap on command now that's something
-DO NOT eat asparagus every day, it gives you stinky pee
-Jack Nicholson said it perfectly in the movie Mars Attacks, “Can't we all just get along...” don't bother wasting a postcard, word conservation remember!
-I remember my dreams very well, but for those that forget invest in a dream journal, then a book that interprets what your means, then buy something else that interprets that or just forget the whole damn deal....WHO CARES! Live your life not your dreams!
-If you get into the recycling business that could be more profitable then the drug dealing and....hey hey hey.... it's legal!
-I think it's great that it is suggested that we learn how to use one of the most important and well known weapons in combat, next years ideas: RPG', grenades, machine guns. Etc.
-In the healthy sense of the word, stopping smoking is great but I've heard that being a quitter is not a fun thing either, maybe you can find a happy medium, switch the smoking to smoking pot and then you will be letting your drug dealing idea go up in flames, a positive use of its fruits!

I hope you enjoyed my variations on these few ideas. I enjoyed writing them. More will come soon you just have to wait for it!

It's A Celebration!!! (In more ways then one!)

Dear Reader,

Well I have been busy for quite some time now and am finally getting a jump start on my blog post for tonight.

YESTERDAY

Yesterday I took my riding student Kimmy to a horseshow at Pickering Horse Centre. We did the 3 foot Training Jumper Division as it was appropriately named. Kimmy rode well and Avis went well except for lazy legs which kept giving Kimmy one rail per round. The wait was yet again ridiculous just as at Foxhunter, but I like Pickering better. The show was very competitive and gave Kimmy a taste of what it would be like to show against people she would be showing with at the Trillium level. I tried to smarten Avis up by making him jump higher and hopefully hit a few rails in the warm up ring but he thwarted my efforts and was jumping 4 feet clean and solid. Silly little jerk he is sometimes. Kimmy came away with a 7th place, which some may say is not that great but she really enjoyed herself and had FUN. The most important part of the game. Congrats Kimmy and Avis…..back to hunter to prepare for some other schooling shows!

SEPTEMBER 24, 2007

I was at school, at Seneca College, and asked to write this piece of writing which I plan to share with you. We were told to use our senses and make the picture very vivid for the reader. I hope you enjoy my little ditty.

A Stroll in the Park
I walk in solitude, in an extraordinary area known as, The Park. A bubbling brook tries to have a discussion with objects surrounding it. Maybe that brook is asking a question or two relating to time and destiny. The sky as blue as a sapphire that has been pulled out of hiding. Wind blowing softly, while a warm sun kisses your cheeks. Across the park you recognize a dog barking gleefully as it plays with its owner. Walking amongst the fall colours, while crisp leaves crunch beneath your feet. The boundary around the park is a mountainous range of houses. The constant him of a busy town is always present. Even though the area is surrounded and you know the town is not far, the lush green grass, fresh with flowing chlorophyll, takes you back to a place where you are calm and at one with yourself.

SEPTEMBER 25, 2007

This was the night I started my creative writing night course. I was nervous at first because I didn’t really know what I was going to be getting. When I got there the room was packed with unfamiliar faces and it appeared that I was the youngest one there. We were given our first writing assignment which I will post on here after tomorrow night because I will know how it stood up against the class. It’s a solid piece and it’s really flowing which I like. It has a personal touch to it which is always nice. I think this class will be a great teaching method and I will learn a lot. Look for works to come as well, like I said we get a writing assignment every week and there are 9 weeks worth of assignments. Only one is out of the way!

THE HILLS

Tonight was the night where Heidi finally got what she deserves for screwing Elodie out of a position that she deserved. It plays out more perfect then the HILLS fan would predict. There are starting to be little holes that are growing in Spencer and Heidi’s relationship. It’s nice because I’m not as big a Spencer fan anymore. This episode is really about fun and friends taking a stand. Here it comes the infamous recap:

ReCap
- Audrina, LC, and Lo are going to Vegas for Brody’s bday
- J-Bobby is flying there with the girls
- LC says the girls appearing in Vegas for Brody is his gift
- Heidi and Spencer’s one year anniversary is coming up
- Heidi wants Spencer to tell his parents about the wedding before not after
- Spencer has planned a spa day for both himself and Heidi for the anni gift
- When the girls arrive at the airport J-Bobby only says hi to Audrina not the other girls
- J-Bobby is bringing his guitar and when asked if he will serenade the girls by Lo he ignores her
- Brody and the boys are at his suite at the Palms hotel in Vegas
- When Brody opens the door LC jumps into his arms for a big hug, and then greets Frankie with a hug
- The group starts to toast Brody for his bday and J-Bobby chooses not to participate
- Elodie doesn’t like the Heidi situation at work so she gave her notice
- Elodie thinks it will be easier to go elsewhere to move up b/c Brent didn’t give her the opportunity
- Brent asks Heidi if she is ready for the Emmy’s and Heidi tells him it’s her and Spencer’s anni so she wants to spend it with him but she will have everything ready ahead of time
- Heidi talks to Elodie to get her to cover the Emmy’s for her
- Elodie plays it cool and says yes even though she knows she won’t be working
- LC and Lo talk about J-Bobby being weird and they make a bet on who will be the first to get him to smile
- At the club Brody proclaims he has the most beautiful date, which is LC
- Brody and LC talk about Heidi and Spencer not being there to celebrate his birthday
- Audrina and J-Bobby appear at the club
- LC gives Brody a birthday kiss
- Frankie wants Brody and LC to hook up, he believes that Heidi caused the issues when Brody and LC tried to hook up
- It’s agreed that Spencer and Heidi cause drama, and the group doesn’t want drama
- Lo does a “Britney” and flashes her crotch
- Frankie advises Brody to get with LC
- The girls are living it up poolside the next day at the Palms
- Lo is bothered that J-Bobby won’t be nice
- Lo makes the comment that since Jason is taken LC should hook up with Brody
- Girls are hoping that Audrina is ok because they haven’t heard from her since they saw her the night before at the bar
- The group goes to Pure NightClub in Vegas to celebrate
- LC gives Brody a mega birthday kiss!!!!
- Brody and LC are making goo goo eyes at each other all night
- Heidi and Spencer are just arriving at Don Antonios for their anni dinner
- Heidi thinks it’s so nice of Spencer all the things he has done to celebrate their anni
- The girls ask Audrina where J-Bobby is and take note that he has disappeared
- The girls are chit chatting on the rotating bed in Brody’s suite
- Audrina gets upset and yells “I know you guys don’t like Justin, I get it ok!”
- Audrina leaves in a huff and LC goes out to sit by the pool to cool off
- During dinner Heidi gets a phone call and finds out that Elodie has quit and that she has to leave her anni dinner to save her own butt
- Spencer gets pissed and says that Heidi doesn’t love him
- Heidi says that they have to leave and she has to go to work
- Brody is sitting out by the pool with LC and trying to clarify the LC, J-Bobby and Lo situation
- LC gets a little huffy but Brody just brushes it off and cuddles her up
- Brody says that he likes J-Bobby and that J-Bobby has the problem with Lo, not LC
- Brody states that he likes LC
- Brody suggests that him and LC take a nap outside by the pool, and they end up cuddling close in each others arms

Now if that was not a good episode then Reader I don’t know what you think a good episode is. I really like the Brody and LC combo and really want them to hook up for real this time. The look on Brody’s face when LC and the girls surprised him was great and he was really happy to see LC there. Frankie is totally right in saying that Heidi buggered up their first chance. Heidi is burning all her bridges and it looks good on her. Like her mother asked her, “When Spencer leaves, what are you going to have left in the way of friendships?” Elodie was supposed to be Heidi’s big buddy at work and she screwed her over. Heidi used to be BFF’s with LC and she buggered that up so bad that she can’t even communicate with the associates, ie. Whitney, Audrina and Lo. Spencer was really bratty when she said that she had to go to work too. Heidi mentioned that he was the one all for her getting the promotion and then when she has to stand up and do her job he gets bitchy…HELLO, what’s with that? The J-Bobby scenario is tricky because I don’t really like how he treats Audrina, some of his points are right but he is making it hard for her, and Lo should back off a little bit. Audrina is starting to get upset about them ragging on about J-Bobby too, hopefully this doesn’t ruin the friendship she has with LC. LC couldn’t take that trauma again I don’t think. The previews looked great too!! Go TEAM LC AND BRODY!!! MACK IT UP!!!!!

Creative Writing x2 and More Cow News!

Dear Reader,

So I finally did it. I signed up for a course that is really close to home to expand my knowledge on creative writing. I will admit that I am excited because it will only help me with my new found passion. I have found that within the last year that I love to write. I write about absolutely anything as you well know. Hopefully this course will encourage me to write more wonderful assignments that I can post on here for your viewing pleasure.

Next topic….

Yesterday, we de-horned my little calf Spartacus. The process wasn’t nearly as bad as the method of ‘gouging”. With the method of gouging, what the instrument is, is like a long pair of pliers with sharp ends that go into the calf’s skull and take out the horn buds. After taking out the bud it is normal procedure to then stick a cauterizing iron into the gouge area to stop the bleeding. I am not sure whether this method is done with freezing or not but it is way to bloody for me to even think about doing it to the poor little guy. So there is another method of actually burning the horn off. What it is, is a butane torch with a little cup shaped figure on the end. The idea is to put the cup shaped area over the horn and gradually burn the horn to the base of the bud so that there is no blood supply therefore the horn cannot grow. My dad gave Sparty more freezing then necessary, and I will admit that I was unsure how I was going to be able to endure this, even though I wasn’t the one getting the procedure done. So before you start burning anything you insert a needle just above the eye area to the base of the nerve that goes to the horn bud. The needle has the freezing so you are freezing the nerve which in turn will freeze the horn bud and the horn. Then you heat up the butane touch till it is nice and hot. You place the mini horn in the cup shaped area and then kind of rotate the burner around so that you are burning the horn. Because Sparty had a fair bit of hair around the little nibs the smell was of burning hair. Then you gradually press a little deeper. Eventually the first little cap will come off of the mini horn. Dad chose to burn the left-over mini horn to ensure that he was doing a good job. Now as a mother watching I thought it would be disturbing but really it was the opposite and quite fascinating. When the cows grow horns think of it as if they are growing finger nails, that’s the analogy my dad gave me.

Next topic….

So we now have a bull on the property to pleasure my 4 big ladies. They will be coming into season soon so he will definitely have his hands full. The bull’s name is JR. It’s kind of funny because he is this massive sized cow, not something I would really call JR, I would probably name it GIGANTOR or something of the like, but oh well! JR, is a black angus cow, all black no white at all, he has a little bald patch on his head from rubbing it on things but hey some men go bald it’s ok! It’s really funny because he is always checking out the ladies making sure they are ‘ripe’ for the taking. There has been no breeding going on that we know of but whatever happens at night is between JR and his ladies. The babies are loving having a male figure around. They look up to him like a father figure, often playing around him and making sillyness in his presence. JR doesn’t really care! Although yesterday JR got to the notion that he was going to have a drink of milk from Molly like the babies do. He got in there and was sucking away, probably sucking the life out of dear Molly, poor girl! Finally she got irritated with his rudeness and started trying to walk away. The best thing was that JR had total milk mouth and face just like the babies do. He definitely had a treat that he was not expecting, that’s for sure! Pics to come soon, I have to get off my butt and take them.

For now I have said my piece. Don’t forget that it is the Hills tonight people so I will write a blog post right after the show. Should be quite interesting, so stay tuned here for the latest Hills re-cap! I have also decided that I want to put more pics on the blog. Dear Reader,

Today was a day of celebration and excitement. The 2nd Semesters of the RTE program at Seneca College had their graduation. I was lucky I got to film and take pictures at the event as well as send good wishes on to those graduating. It was really nice to be able to see the staff together enjoying one another’s company, as well as the company of students both new and old. Being able to capture the joy and happiness within the group was really fun and exciting at the same time. The teacher’s were all good sports and had their “mug shots” taken. All the 2nd Semesters got up and said their thanks to the program co-ordinators, their colleagues, and the newbies that will be taking their position as the NEW 2nd Semesters. Family and friends were welcome and joined in the festivities. One of the 2nd Semester students did his co-op placement creating a yearbook for the class to have as a keepsake. The book was astounding, it had a ditty written by each student, school information, work information and information incase you need assistance of any kind. The book was fabulous and captured each student as an individual and as part of the group. Although the group was small, it made for a closer friendship and bond between each of the people. My group as next year’s 2nd Semesters have a lot to live up to with regards to the year book, and the graduation celebration itself. Congratulations to all the graduating students and may you find happiness on whatever path you choose!

Updates, Get Your Updates!!!!

Dear reader, so I haven’t written something really personal in a while so I figured I should bring you up to speed on a few things, etc.

THE COWS
I am waiting (patiently, or at least trying) for Molly to give birth. She is as big as a house, there’s a possibility that it may be twins! Two babies, that’s great! I can’t wait to see them. It was predicted when we got her that she would be calving within the week that they arrived but she’s two weeks over due and she doesn’t look like she will be having a baby/babies over the weekend. She doesn’t run very much and when she walks she waddles. She has about a foot sticking out from where her belly would regularly be, on either side! Nubbin will be next to give birth and then Scarlett and Bigguh. We aren’t watching Nubbin closely yet though because she’s not ready for sure.

MY NEW PASSION
I really enjoy taking pictures. I have been practicing when there is riding lessons going on. I am getting a lot better. I find the action shots hard to take, for example when the horses are jumping that’s difficult but I am getting better at it all the time. Even the horses are getting used to me being in weird areas around the ring so that I can get what I think would be the perfect shot. The first lesson, I took approximately 45 pictures and I nearly doubled that the next lesson I decided to take pictures at. I am also taking pictures around the farm of things that look nice, sometimes the sky, the cats, the sunset, anything really that I consider pleasing to the eyes. I have posted a few of my pictures (a lot really) on Facebook, if you are interested in seeing them you can look me up there.

SCHOOL
School is almost done. I have been guaranteed a pass with one credit already completed (Computers). I am trying to find a volunteer placement somewhere within the school news paper or something so that I can enhance my newfound writing skills. If I don’t get that I will ask Erin if I can do my placement at the cleaners because it’s close to home. Dad thinks that I should try and find a placement at one of the local papers but I said that I have to like working where I am and I doubt that I would like working for one of the local papers. The benefit for working with the school is I may be able to write about the program I am involved in and how it is changing and progressing. The second semesters have their graduation next week on Friday. I will take my camera because I really want to capture their happiness and excitement and also get pictures for my own memories of them. They are a really nice bunch of people and I wish them all the best.

GOLF
For Father’s Day I treated dad to a round of golf and then made him a really nice dinner. I tried to tell him that he didn’t need to do chores around the house but he insisted and I wasn’t going to argue with him. The golf was nice but it was probably the worst round of golf for a long time. I realize my season was cut short last year and that we haven’t been to the driving range much this year, so I am not going to be amazing on the first try. We are going again this weekend, which will be nice, and we are making a tentative date for Tuesday after I am done school. I miss my hobby but I am lucky that I am able to do it a little bit rather than none.

Updates, Get Your Updates!!!!

Sorry for the blurriness but i tried my best, you can still sort of read it.

It's a bit messy but you get the idea of what i got.

Dear Reader, I am writing to update you on a few things.

1. My mum and I had a girls day out, it was really nice since we are starting to get along much better nowadays. I decided that I was going to get a tattoo today because my friend Jamie “Grazzhopper” Lindsay, just bought the tattoo shop so it was my way of saying congrats to him. I got a little star that’s blue border with a hollow inside. I took a picture of it myself but it doesn’t look the greatest, but I will get my mum to take a better shot tomorrow. I have also included Jamie’s business card in case anyone in the area wants to get a tat by him. We then finished the aft. off with a nice lunch at 66 on Brock, my fav. place to eat. It was a great aft. Thanx Mum!

2. I finished my career assessment testing on Thursday of this week. It wasn’t as weird as the last bunch of questions, no sexual questions at all this time. Phewwwwwww. This time it was all timed though, and there were at least 7 different tests I had to do. The only test that I didn’t complete within the time limit was the math questions but that’s ok I hate math anyway. Now I will get to see what my true potential jobs might be instead of the testing we did in class that told me I was to be a gunsmith, magician or furniture upholsterer.

3. Watched Apocalypto, a film directed by Mel Gibson. Now I don’t really like Mel Gibson himself and I don’t like that he chooses movies to direct that are based on history because the story is already written basically, it’s how he chooses to interpret it, BUT PASSION OF THE CHRIST was amazing and I really liked it (and I’m not even religious) I was looking forward to see how this movie would do. This movie is gory, probably one of the goriest that I have seen in a while but that’s not what gets the watcher. It’s the fact that the movie has an amazing story. It’s about a warrior that ends up being captured by ‘bad guys’ and sent to sacrifice but when he is about to be sacrificed a solar eclipse happens and saves him from his doom. He then has to play a HUNT type of game where he is the hunted, that lasts for quite a good portion of the movie but it is really interesting and suspenseful. As usual I am not going to tell you the ending because then you wouldn’t watch it. Take note there are no famous stars in it and that’s a major plus. This is probably one of my favourite movies of the year so far and I highly recommend it.

4. Watched Letters From Iwo Jima, a film by Clint Eastwood, who also directed Flags of Our Fathers. I really liked this film because it made me realize what the Japanese had to go through in a losing battle situation. The movie stars Ken Watanabe, who has such movies as Last Samurai and Memoirs of a Geisha in his repertoire as well as some indie films. This man I cannot say enough times, how fabulous an actor he is. In this film he plays the smart General that tries to convince the people already on the island of Iwo Jima that if they plan to have all their people on the beach, the battle will be over before it begins. He is the one that convinces them to hide in tunnels in the hills and such, a type of guerilla warfare if you will. The Japanese in the movie are very people oriented, ex. a general shoots an American and then brings him into the hidey hole and has him tended to so that he does not die, when the soldier is coherent he then begins to tell him that he competed in the Olympics in the USA that year as a horseback rider, they shake hands and make peace. The one specific thing about this movie was that it really showed that there was mass confusion behind the Japanese lines. The mainland offered no help by sending reinforcements, tanks, or planes, they basically had to fight the battle with what they had. The story is incredible and really gets to the watcher as you see these men trying their best to stay alive when commanders are often trying to commit suicide because they know the mission is a bust. The one thing that is noticeable is that these men fight to try and get back to home to their wives and families, a true inspiration to get them through the war. Clint Eastwood did it again with another fabulous film but on the other side, showing what the Japanese had to go through, and what trials and tribulations they had to suffer.

5. We got a call from our cattle liaison today and he is going to be bringing us a shipment of cows on Sunday. He bought 3 cows that are due to give birth within the next 2 months which is right about when Bigguh is to give birth. These cows may be a slight bit darker because they have more Simmental (the red coloured cows) in them then Charolais (the beige cows) but I figure that might mean they are the fawn or light brown colour which is really nice. I can’t wait to see them. The cattle liaison also told dad that cow prices are high so if per chance we had sold Bigguh(which we would never do), she would have gone for between $1500 – $1700. Pretty surprising huh!

The Force = Facebook, + Movie Reviews

Dear Reader, just writing because it’s been a while and I’m sure that you are missing some of my interesting news. First on the list is the pic. This pic is of me and my friend Heather who I have met and now carpool (I drive) to school. She is really nice and has a lot of interesting and different views. This pic makes me smile when I see it because we both look so happy!

Movie Review – Déjà vu

This movie was unbelievably excellent. At first I thought I may get lost in the going back and forth in time with the film but it is done in a way that totally is easy to follow. There were some big stars in it besides Denzel (ie. Val Kilmer, Bruce Greenwood, Jim Cavaziel). All the actors brought their A Game to the table making the story not only interesting but amazing. I can’t really describe the movie or else it will give it away but I definitely suggest you watch it.

Movie Review – Alphadog

This movie, even though it doesn’t say it, was based on a real kidnapping and some of the people that were involved are still going through the justice system. I already said it though, it’s based on a kidnapping. This movie was very ridden with stars, maybe to the point that it was too much (ie. Bruce Willis, Sharon Stone, Emile Heirsch, Justin Timberlake (not so great in this movie, way better in EDISON FORCE), Dominique Swain, Lukas Haas, Ben Foster (ArchAngel from XMEN 3). There were also plenty more involved I just named a few. The movie was ok but it was really about the drug world and what can happen when you don’t pay your dealer. That pretty much sums it up, it was alright, mildly entertaining, therefore you may want to see it.

Movie Review – Because I Said So

This I would have to say is by far one of Mandy Moore’s better films. Although this film was star ridden as well (ie. Diane Keaton, Mandy Moore, Lauren Graham , Piper Perabo , the dad from Seventh Heaven, etc.) the movie was not that bad. I really enjoyed it because I was in the mood for a chick flick and I wanted to see someone fall in love and be happy (don’t know why I wanted to see that since it’s not happening to me but oh well). The one major thing I liked about this movie was the food that was shown. Mandy Moore’s character is a caterer and her mum (Diane Keaton) is a cake maker/decorator. The cakes were out of this world, they employed designs and looks that were incredible. I really like it when there is something else in a movie that is recognizably interesting and fascinating. Like I said prior, it is a chick flick, there a few laughs in it, NO TEARS (guys you will love that one), and it’s a fairly good story. In one of the review I read about it they said “It’s like Annie Hall has turned into a control freak!” Now I never saw Annie Hall but I know it was played by Keaton and she hit the epitome of control freak and it was really funny. It’s nice to see someone go through that and you know exactly how they feel!

Oh yeah before I totally forget I have joined what I like to refer as The Force. That would be the friend finder known as facebook. I have found a lot of friends and stuff and it’s great to see how they are doing, stuff like that fascinates me. There are even people on there from when I went to pre-school with them. A lot of people are married and have kids and I have made sure to make ‘notes’, as the facebook people call it, on the issue. It’s nice to have contact with people that I had truly lost contact with in about 5 years. Maybe it’s not so bad after all, but I did cave and join it, so much for sticking to my own plan!!!

Updates, Get Your Updates!!!!

Dear Reader, this will just be a few reviews and some updates because there hasn’t been a whole lot going on in my life.

SCHOOL

I started back to school on Monday at Seneca College. It’s not a full time course but I do have to go everyday, unless I fall off the earth or something. There are various courses I am taking, just to name a few: Contemporary Studies (about the media and how it affects us), Humanities (arts, science and history rolled into one), Health and Wellness. There are a bunch of other courses, I just chose to name the ones that I think I might really like. I think that Contemporary Studies has gotten off to a good start because the teacher told us to keep an eye or an ear open to media relating to the Virginia Tech Shooting. which I must admit that it is very horrific but it reminds me a lot of 2 incidents in particular. 1) It is very Columbine-esque, the death threats, the letters etc. The guy was a loner like the two guys were, it happened in a school setting and I’m sure if I wanted to I could name a few other similarities. IT IS ALSO VERY CLOSE TO THE DATE COLUMBINE HAPPENED. 2) The shooting at the school in Quebec where several female students were shot by a male assailant. I can’t explain why it reminds me of that, maybe it’s because they said the guy was looking for his girlfriend and then went on a shooting tirade when he couldn’t find her. Well, the guy is dead now, along with 32 other people that were innocent. He is the person to date that has killed the most people in a shooting like this. Columbine was 16 people and this young guy doubled that to make it 32. I truly wonder what was going on with his life and in his mind when he did such actions. It definitely makes me wonder, what about you? See school has gotten to me already by being analytical of such happenings. I think I will really like Humanities because it will be very interesting and the curriculum for the course is very broad so we can study what we like within the particular block (of arts, science or history) that we are studying.

Book Review – True Believer By Nicholas Sparks

I must admit that this book was my least favourite of all the books that I have read by Nicholas Sparks. The characters didn’t really connect till later in the book and I wasn’t really a big fan of the lead characters. They were sort of bland and plain. Usually, as you have read in other posts reviewing his books, the characters make you become one with them and you feel like you are going through the novel through them. The book was also revolving around ghosts and the main character was “a born skeptic and a science journalist who specializes in debunking the supernatural”. Not something that I am really interested in but I thought I would get the book because I have liked everything else I have read by him. There wasn’t even any really touching phrases or lines that I could choose from in this book, unfortunate because I really like things like that. The book says it’s an old fashioned love story, so if that’s your cup of tea then get the kettle boiling that water because you will like it, I on the other hand wasn’t the biggest fan of it. Like I said before, Nicholas Sparks has written books that I found way more touching and interesting then this one, I am still going to be a faithful reader and read his books because one bad one doesn’t make them all bad right!

Movie Review – Notes On A Scandal

This movie was a very interesting and powerful film. Big stars were Cate Blanchett, the dame Judi Dench and Bill Nighy. CB is an art teacher at a new school, she acts like a new student in some ways. JD is a battleaxe of a teacher, that can regain control of the students by just looking at them with a scowl. If she needs to raise her voice you better bet it’s not pleasant. Just FYI BN is CB’s husband, with whom she has two children. The main storyline of the film is that CB ends up falling ‘in love’ with one of her 15 year old students. When she is supposed to be at a play with JD in the audience and is not there, JD goes to try and find her. Lucky JD gets to be a witness to CB giving her young lover a BJ(I’m not going to define what that might be cause I know we are all adults and know exactly what it is). JD gets to know CB”s family very closely, to the point where they find it strange that she is always turning up at their house. CB finally gets a warning from JD that she knows about what is going on and that she better end it so that no one gets hurt. Interestingly enough, JD has it figured out to a T that she is going to use this to make CB become her friend and use the info she has sort of fallen upon to her advantage. Eventually the love story gets dragged out of the bag and CB gets fired from her job and her hubby says that he needs her to leave for a while so that he can sort his feelings out. CB gets whisked off by JD to her house, which JD is going to use to get her to fall in love with her. JD gets roped into the scandal by being the person that let all the info out into the open, when in a snit with CB she tells a teacher co worker that visits her to find out whether CB likes him. CB is very pissed, to say the least, when she finds JD’s diary which contains all this info plus the fact that she is falling in love with her. CB has a fit and ends up digging up JD’s past, which she had a love affair with a teacher companion and it didn’t work so the companion ended up teaching somewhere else and having a restraining order put on JD. The dynamics between the characters are very good and must say that I have never seen JD play such a conniving role, by the end of the film you really did not like her at all. CB played a very good role as a woman who doesn’t act her age and is like a free spirit even though she has a family and children. I really liked how CB interacted with her family, it was almost as if she wanted the best of both worlds. Very good film, almost brings how all these teacher and student affairs happen to the forefront.

Movie Review – Smokin’ Aces

This movie was full of stars, to name a few: Ray Liotta, Ryan Reynolds, Ben Affleck, Alicia Keys, Common, Jeremy Piven, Jason Bateman, Andy Garcia. To sum up the movie for you I will give you the blurb on the back of the DVD. “Slick Las Vegas illusionist Buddy “Aces” Israel isn’t playing nice. Turns out, he’s telling mob secrets to the FBI. After a $1 million contract is put out on him. Aces tries to pull his greatest disappearing act before a rogues’ gallery of ex-cons, hit men and smokin’ hot assassins tries to rub him out in this dark action comedy that takes no prisoners”. I will say that it is a drama/FBI flick, there is definitely a lot of action, gun action that is. There is a lot of blood spurting all over the place, and it’s amazing how bad all the hit men/women really want to get Aces. I must say it was one of Jeremy Piven’s easier roles, all he had to do was act really paranoid and be on drugs a lot. The only thing he did that was really interesting was he was handy with a deck of cards. For Alicia Keys first film role her part was small but she handled it like a pro and ended up with Common, who was gorgeous to boot. Ryan Reynolds was very sexy but he was a bit of a young cop looking up to his superior officer who was Ray Liotta, you could tell the partner bond right from the beginning to the end of the film. Andy Garcia, meh, he was sort of like the loser character he played in the Oceans 11 and 12 movies, which I really didn’t like so he didn’t do anything for me in this movie. I think the best thing about the movie was that Ben Affleck’s character was one of the first characters to die, so you didn’t have to deal with him torturing you throughout the film. (Sorry I’m not a Ben fan.. he’s not that good… I can’t help it). Overall I would say the movie had way too many stars for the type of flick it was meant to be, the action was mediocre compared to other movies but some bits were entertaining. The fact that the company is saying it is a comedy is not a good description but they are trying to market a product …. I guess…not what I would have said that’s for sure. You may like it, the action is what I thought was the best part of the movie, but there are better movies out there with better action… that’s my final words for that one.

I am going to end this blog post with a quote that my friend Erin (from FLAWLESS DRYCLEANERS INC.) has in her msn name, “Fall in love with someone who calls you beautiful, not hot”. I find it very touching in a realistic way. Hope you get the same message that I got out of it.
