Who Do You Want to Hear From?

Dear reader the quest for celebrity interviews continues, I have looked into getting someone from the Hills (which would be really fabu), also I made a list of some other actors in the entertainment industry that I might like to hear from. The list has quite a few Canadian actors, as well as a few American actors. I have just looked into getting Neil Crone to be the first Canadian celebrity to be on my blog. He’s a really witty person and everything he says, ends up being really funny. He’s a very intelligent and committed to many various areas of the entertainment industry, (ie. hosting, motivational speaking, theatre, stand up comedy, etc.). I think he would be good because he would have a lot of good information to share. As for you dear reader, I would like to hear from you, who would you like to hear from. I am willing to dig a fair bit to see if I can actually make contact with these people. Please do make a suggestion if you would really like to hear from someone in particular. Some of the people I am wanting to hear from: Catherine O’Hara, Ron Jeremy, Linwood Barclay, Tyra Banks, Ellen Degeneres, Jay Manuel, etc., just to name a few.

Book Review – Race Against Time by Stephen Lewis

So first of all I will tell you who Stephen Lewis is because I am sure that most readers will not know who he is. Stephen Lewis is the UN Secretary General’s special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa. He is also the director of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. He has been named “Canadian of the Year” by Maclean’s magazine in 2003 and on of the most influential people in the world by TIME magazine in 2005. He specializes in doing things within the category of humanitarian activities.
Now the book.
The book was a major eye opener for me because it brought to my attention how much problems there actually are in Africa. The main cause of the problem, from what Lewis has found is : not enough funding to help countries in dire need, HIV/AIDS is taking over Africa by leaving many children without parents and then having to provide for whatever family is left, equality between males and females, and making education available to all children. Many of the countries that are part of a team to help fund Africa with these projects are not contributing the amount as promised; meanwhile children are dying of hunger and sickness, while the people within the wealthy countries live a lavish life. The book is a total of 5 chapters discussing the various areas in depth, but keep in mind that all the chapters are lectures that Lewis himself has given to various groups. There is also a preface and an afterword. Another thing I really liked about the book was there was a glossary of terms in the back stating what the different short forms for agencies were and stood for and also words that were commonly used within the continent of Africa. The book was not a hard read at all but there was a lot of information that just made me sit back and realize how lucky I really am. I suggest that people read this book because it will get the message out there how truly in need of help Africa is.

Movie Review – Babel

I normally don’t review a movie right after I watch it because I want to let the movie digest in my brain. This movie was a little bit confusing but eventually by the end of the movie you realize how it all fits together. Like the movie CRASH, all the characters within the movie end up being connected to each other in some way shape or form. I think this is one of the movies that Brad Pitt actually looked old, for the character he was playing. He was able to convey his panic and his worry really well, normally I find him a cardboard cut out but this time he was very good. Cate Blanchett’s character role wasn’t that big, she really got good money for what she had to do I’m sure because she basically lies around moaning and such because she is shot. A new comer to the film industry is Rinko Kikuchi, she plays the deaf mute girl in the film. I was in awe by her character and how well she portrayed all the emotion that her character had inside herself. I definitely agree with her being nominated for an Oscar, I’m not sure if she won it though because I didn’t watch it. We also get to see Gael Garcia Bernal (the guy from the MOTORCYCLE DIARIES), he plays a good guy when everything is going ok and then he turns into a total dick when there starts to be a bit of a problem. The movie brought a lot of thoughts and ideas to mind, I definitely liked this movie way better than 21 GRAMS. I would say though the movie you either like it for a variety of reasons or you totally dislike it. I think that I liked it a lot because it was very thought provoking and interesting, but I can definitely see someone truly hating the film because it bounces all over the area.

The Quest Begins!!!

Dear reader, I don’t usually start a post with this information but I am going to switch things up for once.

10 Things We Learned This Week (Toronto Star- Sunday Edition)

1. Hostage Lunch – A meal often pizza, paid for by the company and delivered to employees whose bosses require them to attend a meeting on their lunch hour. Eg. “I was planning on running some errands over my lunch hour, but the VP is keeping us in a meeting. At least he ordered us hostage lunch”

2. Thursday is Pig Day. The saying “sweat like a pig” is a misnomer: pigs can’t sweat. Their well-known method of cooling off (rolling around in the mud) has contributed to the misconception that they’re dirty.

3. Sir Isaac Newton is credited with inventing the cat flap.

4. Fig Newtons were not named after the inventor of the cat flap. Rather, they took their moniker from Newton, Mass., a town near the regional bakery that created them. (As one wag noted, “Thank it wasn’t near Belchertown.”)

5. Belch.com has accumulated “the largest collection of digitally recorded belches on the Net”: 550

6. Thursday is National Beer Day in Iceland. It marks the end of a 75-year prohibition of the beverage which expired on March 1, 1989.

7. On this day in 1940, a hockey game was televised for the first time. Viewers of New York station W2XBS saw the Rangers beat the Montreal Canadiens, 6-2. at Madison Square Garden. (Hockey Night in Canada debuted on CBC-TV in 1952)

8. Dry ice weighs about twice as much as regular ice.

9. How cool are you if you’re as cool as a cucumber? The inside of the fruit can be up to 20 degrees F (11C) cooler than the outside temperature.

10. Yuppie Food Stamps – “The $20 bills that everyone gets from ATMS. They become an issue when a group goes out to eat and it comes time to pay. Each person owes $11 and no one has anything smaller than a $20.)

I hope you enjoyed the facts as much as I did because I find them very interesting and different and it’s brain food, how can you go wrong with that.

I just had a really good idea. I am going to go on a mission and try to get someone to respond to an email that I send them and then I will post it for sure on the blog. I may try the Roloff family or maybe someone from the Hills. It will take some digging but I will try my hardest ever. I have emailed several tv program businesses before but I have never had a response. Examples include: Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Mark Mani, and of course, Dog the Bounty Hunter. This mission can also include the help of you readers, if you know someone famous please ask them a few questions and forward me the email and I will for sure post it on the blog. I think it would add a bit of adventure to the blog.

The Hills tomorrow looks like it is going to be quite interesting. The preview has Heidi planning to send Lauren to a club that Spencer will be at and check out if he’s being a player or not. Heidi ends up on tears on the couch in the apartment her and Lauren share and Lauren is on the phone with Brody, kinda upset how Spencer is treating Heidi. IN the background Heidi is yelling “I’m sooo over you Spencer”. That relationship can’t end yet though because it’s a spicy bit of the show, and Lauren and Brody are just heating up, they can’t get rid of the drama, it’s fabu.

Movie Review – The Prestige

I have to say there was a lot of stars in the movie but it was slightly confusing. It was ok because the magic tricks were cool to watch and interesting to see the behind the scenes a bit. I thought that Christian Bale did an awesome job of playing the friend who is always trying to be better than Hugh Jackman’s character. Very interesting, Piper Perabo (from Coyote Ugly) plays Jackman’s wife in the beginning of the movie. That would have been a good bit part for her. Scarlett Johannson’s part was really small and her character wasn’t really anything to get excited about. I must say though the character of Tesla, played by David Bowie (YEAH I KNOW DAVID BOWIE), was very mysterious and interesting the way he was meant to be. Even Michael Caine was hard to read character wise, you get mixed up thinking which friend he is really working with. The movie wasn’t the greatest but it definitely had some really interesting tricks and stuff to keep the watchers interested.

My quest for getting someone famous to write to me for the blog begins today!

Review of Last Night's Tv!!!Drama Drama Drama

Dear reader, last night was good tv night and it was absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately my dad was unable to watch Little People, Big World with me, but that’s ok. He seemed really sad that he missed it , so I thought that I would give the guy a break. Now the Hills, it was absolutely fabu. It was great but I wanted to see Heidi getting some birthday loving from Spencer. That would have been a real treat, alas I did not get my raunchy sex scene, oh well, maybe that is to come! I will say that Lauren and Brody are starting to get into a relationship, and Brody is using all his ladies man trix. He really can be quite charming when he’s trying to get with someone. I was definitely impressed with his lady schmoozing skills, I would have loved to be on the receiving end that’s for sure. Spencer is going to get caught for being a bit of a man whore next episode, I can hardly wait. Audrina was made out to be a bit of a bitch in the episode but I don’t really think that was the case at all. I am curious as to what caused Heidi to drop being her friend because they were really tight, if this is all because of Spencer that’s no good. I thought it was hilarious when Audrina was talking with her friends and she called Spencer a cheeseball, the word was tossed around a bit because Lauren ended up calling Brody a cheeseball too. This episode I really did not like Whitney though, I think that I am going to stick to not liking her because she is strange, there’s something about her. I tried to find some pics of Heidi and Spencer and Lauren and Brody but I didn't have any luck, maybe I will find some in the future!

Monday Night is the ONLY good tv Night

Dear reader I have to say that I am disappointed with the people who schedule what goes on the tv during the week and weekends. My only good tv night is Monday and there are only 2 shows that I watch that night. I watch Little People, Big World for one hour and then at 10 I have gotten into the habit of watching the Hills for ½ an hour. I love Little People, Big World because it teaches a person (me) about the simplest things for a tall person, how they can be a major challenge for a little person. I think the Roloff family is a great family with lots of character and all the people bring various skills to the table. I must say though I love seeing their daughter, Molly, running the tractors and stuff because it is not something you would expect of a 15 year old girl. She is very caring about her mother and enjoys it when she gets to spend a lone time with her, be it shopping or at a spa. Amy and Matt (both little people) seem like pretty cool parents, but I must say that I think Amy is way cooler then Matt. She’s a very hard worker but she is an adult that also plays, which is something that all of us really should learn. Matt is smart but the things he comes up with are not small projects, there are quite large projects that usually get the whole family involved by the time it’s over, ex. the zip line they built across their property at the farm. I love Zach and Jeremy because they are the true example of how brothers should be or at least I think so anyway. They care about each other but they also want to have fun. Even though Zach is a little person that does not stop him from wanting to do what his brother or others are doing, he often gets frustrated when he encounters trouble but who wouldn’t. Amy and Matt have another child, Jacob, but I don’t really like him at all, he’s going through a bratty period so he is not really getting mentioned in this blog post. I love the show and would definitely love to meet the Roloff’s if I ever got the chance. For the hour the show is on, my world stops, I don’t talk to anyone or anything I focus on the program….weird how such an outside source can affect your life huh?

Now I will talk about the Hills. I will admit that I really didn’t watch the Hills that much last season because I really didn’t like LC (Lauren Conrad) or Heidi Montag. I loved the drama they had with their boyfriends but there wasn’t enough of it. This season has been really good so far though. Heidi is dating Spencer Pratt, best friend of Brody Jenner, who if you didn’t know were the Princes of Malibu. I am going to say that Spencer is a bit of a slut because he wants Heidi and Audrina but Audrina finally got the message to him last episode. Brody and Lauren are starting to hook it up, which is really interesting because you get to see Brody for the true ladies man that he is. Lauren needs a little spice in her life and Brody just might be it. There has been so much drama in the show already and there have only been 3 episodes. I love it, it sort of fills my gossip cup!

10 Things We Learned This Week (Courtesy of the Toronto Star, Sunday Version)

1. If you emulated the behaviour of Steve Carrell’s character in the episode of THE OFFICE in which is shows his ‘sensitivity’ to people of Indian descent – one of the “famous Indians” he cites is Apu from THE SIMPSONS – you’d be sued, successfully, for about $350,000

2. 31% of Canadian workers have dated a colleague. 15% of those couples got married. Meanwhile, 14% of Canadian workers combine the two steps: they have a relationship with a married co-worker.

3. Reactance: the tendency of a man to do the opposite of what his spouse asks him to do. A new study suggests that when a man fails to help clean the house, “his poor performance might be related to a subconscious tendency to resist doing anything his wife wants.”

4. A California woman was arrested this month for attempting to murder by wasp. She allegedly put the insects into his car, hoping he would die from an allergic reaction. He escaped unstung.

5. Contrary to popular belief, lots of creatures eat wasps. “Vespivores” include badgers, dragonflies, moths, bears and the bee eater, a bird that “counteracts the sting by rubbing the insect forcefully against a tree trunk”

6. Only female mosquitoes bite. They need the protein from the blood to produce fertile eggs.

7. The bacteria levels in women’s offices are nearly 3 times higher than those in men’s offices.

8. It was 43 years ago tomorrow that Paul Simon wrote the lyrics to “The Sound of Silence”.

9. The minimum number of checkpoints Mary and Joseph would face today on their journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem: 10.

10. Attention Surplus Syndrome (ASS): “a disorder that allows people to reach goals and complete tasks”

I AM TRYING TO BE LESS CURVY IN CERTAIN AREAS STARTING MON FEB 12 2006

Dear reader, I have joined the huge amount of women that are part of the small exercise world known as CURVES. Although I have just found out that the one I go to, in Uxbridge of course, has gone up for sale. I am lucky that the cleaners are in port perry so that if the Uxbridge one goes down under I can go to the port one. It’s not that far, or I can go to the one in markham or stouffville, that’s the worst case scenario. I have gone 2 times so far and I am going today and tomorrow. That’s more then the recommended 3 times a week but I figure, I have nothing else to do and it only takes an hour of my time. I really like it so far, the price was right; I got a deal on top of deal. Regularly the signup fee is $199 but it was on for cheap $139, but I signed up on Monday of this week and the owner had just told one of the workers that since it’s the 7 year anniversary that’s how much the registration fee was, $7. So in total I signed up for about $56 instead of a lot more. I’m glad because now I have money to put else where. The monthly fee is $44 and I had to sign up for a year but I have to do something other then just lying in my bed waiting for my weight to just fall off me or for some miracle that my body will turn into a fast metabolic rate (YEAH RIGHT….both will never happen).

Movie Review – The Departed

So this movie was a PLAN B production, and it had a stellar cast yet again. The main cast consisted of Matt Damon (looks so hot in this flick), Jack Nicholson, Leo DiCaprio (he’s not stellar but he is famous), Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin (he’s funny as usual), and Mark Wahlberg (oh yeah a marky marky sandwich….yummy). The story sort of jumps around in the set timeframe of the movie but eventually you figure out where the current scene belongs, but it is sort of easy to get lost in until you notice it is happening. The main idea of the movie is there is a rat in the FBI/Mass. State police and they want to find out who it is. Jack Nicholson plays the ‘bad guy’ which he is very charismatic but he also has that out there crazy part too. Quite often he is seen walking around with blood on his hands or arms or most noticeably on his clothing. I’m not going to give the movie away but there is a lot of guns and blood. Quite a few head shots are done and you can actually see the body and such when it’s done. A body even gets thrown off the roof of a building and it’s sort of graphic. It’s an alright movie but the acting really isn’t the greatest. There are a lot of cheesy accents and people trying to act too American, almost as if they were New Yorkers or something, I can’t really explain it. My advice is rent the movie and watch it but DON”T buy it, it’s not really a necessity to any collection, even if you collect Mark Wahlberg movies!

The movie I was wanting to get but am sort of unsure on is Half Nelson, it is supposed to be one of Ryan Gosling’s most important roles to date. They didn’t have it at the store but I’m sure they will eventually and I will get it then.

SoundCheck – What I am listening to as of late
-mostly sappy songs to make myself more lonely for Valentine’s day
-All American Rejects (Move Along, It Ends Tonight, Straitjacket Feeling and Can’t Take IT)
-Step Up soundtrack (only one song Gina Rene – U Must Be)

-Stone Sour (Looking Through the Glass, and ZZYZX Rd.)
-John Legend Cd (the whole thing is pretty good but I like everything a lot better then the song Save Room), got it for Val Day from my mum- Thanx, good buy!
-Mobile (the whole cd is pretty good but the tracks on the radio are my favs. Montreal Calling, See Right Through Me, Dusting Down the Stars, but NOT OUT OF MY HEAD, it’s good but I’ve heard it too much), just got this cd today though so this could all change.

Book and Movie Review

Book Review – Searching for Bobby Orr

This book definitely opened my eyes in various ways, such as how the hockey world has evolved, how the media has changed the way they interact with the players, and also the type of players that were available. Today I think it is damn near impossible to find a player that compares in many ways to Bobby Orr. He was a very classy person, rarely talked about money, was a driving force for his hockey team mates, and he truly was amazing. My parents and I both agree that he set the bar very high for defensemen after him because he created the path. He was one of the first defensemen to score and then be able to scurry back to his side to be a defender. I already liked Bobby Orr because I always thought that he was an amazing person and he has done a lot of charity work, never did I know how fabulous a hockey player and person he was. This book totally opened my eyes to a world that I would have never known unless reading about it. Even though he suffered because of troubles with his knee(s), he still was able to rouse his team mates and get them to play up to par, the 72 game against Russia. Many players when they saw they were losing, they chose to take the easy route and dessert but Bobby, even though he couldn’t play, he encouraged his team mates to greatness. The one thing I found surprising was that he was never a captain for the Bruins. He possessed in my opinion all the qualities of a good leader and his team mates had a complete and total respect for him. The book does go into slight detail how he was screwed by Alan Eagleson, but I found that was inevitable because there was just something about the Eagle when I was reading about him, I guess it was that he had his hands in so many pots… I don’t know I can’t really explain it. The book goes straight from his childhood to the beginning of his retirement which is nice, but it is packed with information making it a little bit of a tough read. After reading the book I can say that I have the deepest respect for Bobby Orr and I am truly proud to say that he is Canadian (he is one of the few I will say that about).

Movie Review – Running With Scissors

How do I start a movie review, when the movie really has no sense of direction at all. Yes Annette Benning was nominated for a Golden Globe (maybe even won) for her portrayal as the main character’s mother, and the way the character she played was, must have been a challenge for her to act out. Augusten Burroughs really did not have a childhood like most normal kids, but there in lies a problem with that statement…. what is normal anyway. Brian Cox did a fabu job of playing the character of Dr. Finch, but he definitely looked very old. This was probably one of Cox’s strangest roles ever (previous roles in Troy, Braveheart, etc.). I thought it was good to see him in a totally different character because it actually shows whether he is a good actor or not, which he definitely is a good actor. This movie had a stellar cast but I thought it was unfortunate because a lot of the characters these actors played weren’t very good. An example would be Gwyneth Paltrow’s character, I felt that character was probably the worst character she has ever played and it really is unfortunate that it is part of her repertoire. The movie in the beginning followed the book very closely but as it got closer to the end, it started to really stray. The end was nothing that was written in the book, which I found very strange. I think this was one of PLAN B ENTERTAINMENT, Brad Pitt’s production company’s, first and I really think that they could have chosen a better film for a debut. This film really had no direction and in many ways it was quite strange, not a good money maker with an amazing story that would be a good debut film. Hopefully as the company continues to produce films, the main players in its’ operation will make better choices with the films they choose. Overall, I didn’t like the movie so much. There were some funny bits but basically it was a total waste of 2 hours and 2 minutes.

A Tribute to David's Single Life

Dear reader, so I am in a sad/ shocked mode right now. I was talking to one of my best friends, Dave, who is supposed to be getting married on Feb 24. He was having issues with his soon to be wife because the reception is private, which my other best friend Jay and I are not invited to. I’m not mad about that because I don’t really drink but it would have been nice to go. Jay is not impressed that we were not invited since we are a best friend tripod the three of us. Dave has been getting cold feet sort of, he’s the type of guy who is happy to just go to City Hall and get married, go out for lunch or dinner and then go home and get shagadelic. His counter part, soon to be wife, wanted the big deal wedding and the big deal reception which is fine I guess but it’s not really Dave at all. They were going to meet the Pastor who is going to marry them on Friday that was just passed. He was going to try and talk it out and get the soon to be wife to realize that making the wedding ceremony a private thing is not a good thing. He had already told me and a bunch of other people that they could come. Well I called him to see whether my best friends’ wedding was going to be my first wedding….NADDA on that one. He’s really bitter that she is not going to give on it either. The wedding is private and that’s that. He really is quite bitter about the situation. He’s saying things that he really shouldn’t be saying about his future wife. I can’t really do anything but listen because I am not in the situation but I really don’t like seeing my friend in a situation that is sucky. If I could make it better for him I would but I really have no control. It doesn’t help that I HATE his soon to be bride but I have reformed my ways so that he doesn’t have to hear me ragging about it all the time. Jay doesn’t like her either, we both feel that Dave could do much better then this girl. Dave is at the point that he just wants to call it off. He says they are spending so much money on a stupid wedding, when they could use it to pay for a house or something. All I can do is support him the best that I can, and that’s what I plan to do. Whether he decides that he needs a driver to take him away from the scene or what I am there for him. We have been there for each other through a lot of good and bad times, we are practically family.

I LOVE YOU DAVID AND YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE MY FRIENDSHIP NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.

What's the Worst That Could Happen?

Dear reader, I think my house is as cold as the north pole right now. Yet again the oil company fuel tanker guy has forgotten to come to our house. I must say this is not the first time that this has happened either. When my dad called them to say “Hello, our oil tank is getting low” not too long ago, their response was “You have plenty from what our computer shows so you are good for another week or so”. YEAH RIGHT…. And now we are totally out of oil. Shows what they and their computers know. I’ve always thought that it was good to have paper and computer records that are identical in case of a malfunction or complete bugger up.

Next issue. I was washing my clothes so that I have them all fresh and ready for the week. Washed them just fine and then it gets to the point where I need to dry them. As usual my dad’s stuff is in the dryer for no particular reason just sitting there. I am in the process of taking the clothes out when BY TOTAL ACCIDENT I break the knob for the on switch to the dryer. I tried to jiggle it and riggle it so that it would just turn the bloody dryer on, and do you think I had any luck ………NADDA. So then I had to call my dad and tell him that he needed to fix the knobby so that I can get my clothes dryed since mum is coming for dinner tonight.

Next issue, this is silly though. I normally pluck my eyebrows at least once a week, preferably on Sunday because I don’t do anything or go anywhere. Well today I think I totally buggered them up. The arching eyebrow which is my right eyebrow, it looks amazing when I arch it but it’s too short now when it’s not doing anything. My left eyebrow, I don’t know what is up with it but it just doesn’t look right to me. I was lucky to get rid of all the underneath eyebrow hairs and I am free and clear in that area but they just don’t look right to me. I will put 2 pics up to see what you think.

I am kinda pissy because everything today is breaking or going wrong. Yes there are worst case scenarios but enough to create a handbook, oh my what have we come to. So the book clearly states what it is about but if you can’t read what it has tips on surviving they are as follows: runaway camels, UFO Abductions, High rise hotel fires and (of all things) Leeches. Wow and people actually have bought this book. Sad isn’t it.
